In 1875, a small group of Christian disciples began their pilgrimage by leaving their “Mother” Church, the Hollies Baptist Church in Keller, Virginia. They decided that it was time for them to go up to Shiloh to worship and offer a sacrifice to the Lord. Thus from the hearts and minds of our forefathers, the Shiloh Baptist Church was birthed.
Shiloh has given birth to three congregations New Mount Zion Baptist Church in 1881, The Holy Trinity Baptist Church in 1905, and contributing to the membership of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Wardtown, Virginia.
Before the call of our current Pastor, Rev. Dr. Jesse E. Thomas, Shiloh has had thirteen Pastors to lead its flock. Each Pastor being uniquely gifted contributed their spiritual gifts and talents to help build the Kingdom of God and to the organism of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
Twice the structure was destroyed by fire, but in 1907, God had some carpenters who were dedicated in helping to build our present structure. Their hard work and dedication paved a way for Shiloh Baptist to have a memorable and historic moment for having Booker T. Washington speak at this edifice on May 7, 1913.
Shiloh is very proud of its heritage. The church is very humble and honored that God has surely smiled on us. It is by the Grace and Mercy of God that Shiloh Baptist Church has remained as one of the strongest churches on the Eastern Shore.
